What is delto pectoral groove?

The deltoid-pectoral groove, also known as the 'anterior axillary fold,' is a shallow groove located in the front of the shoulder where the pectoralis major and the deltoid muscles meet. It is a visible anatomical landmark that can be used to locate the axillary vein and artery during medical procedures such as IV insertion. The groove is formed by the attachment of the lateral border of the pectoralis major muscle to the humerus bone and the insertion of the deltoid muscle onto the same bone. The size and depth of the deltoid-pectoral groove may vary depending on the muscle development and body composition of an individual.
